seeing double

Rachel and I really need to stop spending so much time together. This is the result of our most recent shopping trip to Trader Joe’s; we didn’t even talk or shop together (except when we investigated the pita bread). It wasn’ t until we got back to the house and we started pulling things out of our bags when we realized that we bought pretty much the same things.
On a side note, this has become very confusing, as I often reach for Rachel’s peanut butter thinking that it’s mine.

sa cha beef and chives

Mmmmm chives! I always buy a bunch when I go to the Chinese supermarket; a lot of people dislike the smell, but I think it smells and tastes delicious!
To make this dish, I cooked 1/4 lb of lean ground beef in some coconut oil and added about a teaspoon of spicy sa cha sauce. After I removed it from the heat, I then sauteed the chives (about half a bunch – the size of a quarter), which I had washed and cut into 1″ long pieces, and then tossed it all together.
I thought it was ok – a little too spicy, and not salty/sweet enough – but hungry enough to scarf it down. Next time, I’ll probably marinate the beef longer and add some soy sauce, rice wine, and/or sugar in as well…or maybe I’ll just as my mother how she does it :)

kale and sausage pasta
Rachel got a bunch of kale at a farmer’s market (she’s obviously working hard at work) a few weeks ago, and promptly sent me several emails with various recipes she wanted to try. We settled for kale chips at the time because it was the easiest thing to make, and we were HUNGRY. It’s hard to describe what kale tastes like – it’s really a delicate flavor that really comes out when the leaves are crispy like our chips. I loved kale so much that when we stopped by Shaw’s last week, I picked up a big (organic) bunch for $1.20 – that’s what I call a delicious deal!
